Speaker:

Okay, so I am quitting and not in

the sense of like quitting, going on

2

:

sabbatical, you know, burning everything

to the ground, but I will explain.

3

:

So I am about to share with you

what is going on with me, what's

4

:

going on with my business, why you

should care, if you care, whatever.

5

:

I'm just sharing and breaking this down.

6

:

So Am I quitting my business?

7

:

No, I am quitting a particular

part of my business.

8

:

Um, that I originally started due to, uh,

I don't know, because of money pressure.

9

:

Um, it was what I was supposed to do.

10

:

It just seemed logical.

11

:

It, it just one of those

things that just sucked me in.

12

:

Um, if you can relate to that, I've

been sucked into a lot of things,

13

:

especially jobs and in roles, um,

because of financial gain, right?

14

:

Mostly, and when something looks like

it's good, or that it can make you a

15

:

maximum amount of money, um, it's hard

to resist those things and to really kind

16

:

of lean back into what it is, remembering

what it is that you really want.

17

:

So, in about, um.

18

:

I don't know, 2000, I started doing this,

you know, teaching podcasting and getting

19

:

into podcast marketing and about 2018 when

I launched my first podcast and I got to,

20

:

you know, top 1 percent of podcasts and.

21

:

I was making money for my

podcast and people started asking

22

:

me like, how do you do this?

23

:

And I was like, Oh, maybe I

should teach how to do a podcast.

24

:

And so then eventually I pivoted to that.

25

:

And I started just, I started out

with strategy and I started out

26

:

telling people like, okay, here's how

we're going to do your content here.

27

:

Let me help you map all this out for you.

28

:

Here's how you're going

to create a podcast.

29

:

It's going to work for your business.

30

:

So I kind of landed on that

angle of podcasting just because

31

:

that's what I was familiar with.

32

:

Let me help you grow your

business with your podcast.

33

:

Let me help you market your

offers with your podcast.

34

:

Right?

35

:

And you've heard me, you know, talk

about this and that's who I help.

36

:

I'm not just like out here helping all

the podcasters, even though I, I could,

37

:

but I just kind of stayed in my lane.

38

:

And so I would, I would go and do

these sessions and do these VIP

39

:

days and map out people's podcasts

and map out your entire season.

40

:

How to do this, and this

is your marketing plan.

41

:

And then what would happen is they

would turn around and ask me, they would

42

:

say, oh, well, Angie, um, who do you

know that could produce this for me?

43

:

And I was like, huh?

44

:

Actually, you know, I know a couple

of people, but after a while I

45

:

started thinking like, dang, I feel

like I'm just throwing money away

46

:

because I could just do this part.

47

:

And all of these people who are asking me

this, I could make money by just doing the

48

:

production instead of passing them off to

other people, which is what I was doing.

49

:

And so that's where my journey began

with podcast production, right?

50

:

Prior to that.

51

:

I never didn't have any experience

with how to edit with audio.

52

:

You know, if you know me, you know,

I'm very low tech, low key audio.

53

:

I just make it happen.

54

:

I make it happen regardless.

55

:

And I love the platform of

podcasting because I don't have

56

:

to show up and be on video.

57

:

And this is what that was 1 of the

things that I love the most is that

58

:

I could just show up and do it the

easiest way possible and get it done.

59

:

So, like, trying to be super techie and.

60

:

Of all this equipment and stuff, which

is not aligned with what I wanted to do.

61

:

Okay.

62

:

So I didn't know I

wasn't really into that.

63

:

It wasn't really a producer per se or an

editor, but I was just attracted by this.

64

:

Like, man, I could do this

whole thing for, for people

65

:

and that's how I got into it.

66

:

And in the beginning, I initially

partnered with someone and then I

67

:

decided to take it all in house and

hire a podcast editor to come on team.

68

:

And we have produced lots and lots.

69

:

And launched lots of podcasts,

um, hundreds in the last couple

70

:

of years, and it's been fine.

71

:

It's been great, but.

72

:

It's been draining and not that

I don't have amazing clients.

73

:

I do.

74

:

It's just after, you know, 2023

and just feeling really stuck

75

:

and stagnant in my business.

76

:

Like, a lot of people were

feeling, uh, I know a lot of

77

:

people felt that in the last year.

78

:

And one of the things that I've really

been reflecting on is how do I create

79

:

something that I really love and lean

into the things that I really enjoy about

80

:

business and not create myself a whole

other nine to five, but just for myself.

81

:

Okay.

82

:

That's what I had created.

83

:

I just created a job for myself versus

creating a business that gave me freedom

84

:

and allowed me to use my skills and, um,

and, and show up in a way that I enjoyed.

85

:

Right.

86

:

And so that's kind of where

I have been at and I started

87

:

really thinking about what is it?

88

:

What is it that I really like to do?

89

:

This is one of them.

90

:

This is one of them.

91

:

Like, if I could just sit all day

with a microphone in front of my

92

:

face and talk that I would be happy.

93

:

And I am happy every time I do it.

94

:

I'm so happy.

95

:

And I started just thinking

about and noticing how I felt

96

:

after I did certain things.

97

:

And I started noticing, okay, this is

when I'm feeling most happy and fulfilled.

98

:

So me doing trainings and

workshops lights me up.

99

:

I love it.

100

:

Like I never want to stop me

talking behind a microphone.

101

:

Love it.

102

:

Never, ever want to stop me

doing client deliverables.

103

:

No, ma'am.

104

:

No, ma'am.

105

:

Not that I cannot do it.

106

:

Not that I cannot hire people.

107

:

Um, it's just that that part of

my business does not light me up.

108

:

And I had to really be honest with

myself because it is a big revenue chunk.

109

:

Oh, it's a big chunk of my revenue.

110

:

So coming clean or coming to this

realization and saying I'm quitting

111

:

this is such a big Deal for me, it's I

don't take it lightly and it also feels

112

:

very freeing because it's had me in a

chokehold and I just couldn't figure

113

:

out why I wasn't feeling motivated in

my business anymore and I want to bring

114

:

that up as a point because, you know.

115

:

If you are feeling unmotivated or

stuck, I invite you to really examine

116

:

what you're doing in your business.

117

:

I invite you to really look at are you

really doing things that serve you or that

118

:

that support who you are that support.

119

:

What you enjoy, are you really

doing that in your business?

120

:

Are you really leaning into the

things that you're really good at?

121

:

For instance, I'm good at

this, this I'm good at.

122

:

Okay, I got the gift of gab.

123

:

Am I good at organization and organizing

client projects and answering them all

124

:

in timely manners and getting everything

done in a timely manner and, you know,

125

:

being really organized and do it?

126

:

No, I am not.

127

:

One of the things I did not enjoy about

my, um, job, I call it a corporate job,

128

:

but I just worked in freaking retail.

129

:

One of the things that was really

hard is that I was managing a lot of

130

:

people and that was really draining.

131

:

And so as I was sitting here thinking

about what I want my business to be

132

:

like, one of the things that was a real

source of stress and draining of me

133

:

when I had my job was managing people.

134

:

And I was sitting thinking like, okay,

well I can get this person and this

135

:

person to help me and I can build

this and this is how I'm going to.

136

:

Scale.

137

:

So I was thinking about scaling.

138

:

I'm like, how am I going to scale this

business from, you know, this agency,

139

:

this, where I'm producing podcast,

where I'm having to pay a team and now

140

:

I'm having to, it's a lot of pressure

to have to pay people all the time.

141

:

It's a lot of pressure

to have to keep going.

142

:

It's a lot of it's a lot of

coordination is a lot of work.

143

:

It's a lot of, you know, I have to

keep up my team, keep up with my

144

:

clients, keep up with my marketing.

145

:

Like, it's a lot.

146

:

Right?

147

:

And so I had to really examine, like.

148

:

Is that really what I want to

build and create for myself?

149

:

And on one hand for a while, I did

think that that's what I wanted.

150

:

Like, I wanted to create this

big agency in this big company.

151

:

And the more that I think about it,

the more that I have thought about

152

:

it, it's just not what I want at all.

153

:

And I really desire to simplify.

154

:

And so this is why I've made.

155

:

This decision.

156

:

Angie, what are you doing?

157

:

What are you going to be doing now?

158

:

Um, so basically I have opened

up a new membership from the very

159

:

beginning, from the very beginning,

something from the very beginning

160

:

that I always wanted to do and that I

always believed in was collaboration.

161

:

Was community, and when it comes to

podcasting, how important that is

162

:

to have community and collaboration,

and I always wanted to create that.

163

:

I really wanted to create that.

164

:

And I remember when I was outlining

my production services, I was like,

165

:

yeah, I'm going to have this community

of all these people that I'm doing

166

:

this for blah, blah, blah community.

167

:

It was always a part of it and I

just got so far away from it because.

168

:

Of the production, I had to focus on

other things and I couldn't really focus

169

:

on the thing that I wanted to focus on.

170

:

Okay.

171

:

So I just started a new community

called the podcast collab lab, and

172

:

it's going to house all of my products.

173

:

So every single digital download that I.

174

:

Have created up until now, and I'm

going to create there's several that

175

:

I'm going to create this year podcast

course, a private podcast course.

176

:

That's coming out soon.

177

:

so I'm going to create those and

in all the templates and things

178

:

like that will all be there.

179

:

All the digital downloads.

180

:

And I'm also creating a digital, um.

181

:

Download like a digital shop, but you

can get all of the digital downloads

182

:

in 1 place in the membership.

183

:

And then also, it's all about

collaboration and being together

184

:

and how I'm going to help to foster

that community that collaboration

185

:

and how we're going to grow each

other's podcast together in community.

186

:

So that is what I.

187

:

I'm creating and why I

just want to simplify.

188

:

I want to focus on community.

189

:

I want to focus on helping people with

podcast growth and marketing and strategy.

190

:

And I've even thought about

becoming like a fractional.

191

:

Podcast person for you, like a, like a

fractional CMO, but for your podcast, um,

192

:

Uh, so I've literally thought about that.

193

:

Like I just would let me take one

client and like be this client's person,

194

:

their personal podcast person that does

everything for their podcast and how

195

:

it incorporates into their business.

196

:

So.

197

:

I've, I've also thought about that,

but I'm really focused on creating,

198

:

like, some sustainable income, um,

where I can is more predictable.

199

:

So, which is why, you know, I'm

doing this sort of membership model.

200

:

So, I've really focusing on that and

also just building out things like.

201

:

YouTube and a blog and my podcast, so

that there are evergreen things that

202

:

are working for me over and over and

then just really building out really

203

:

smart systems and funnels around that.

204

:

Right?

205

:

And just really focusing on the simplicity

of, okay, let me create this content once.

206

:

You know, create sit

down, create this video.

207

:

It's going to go for YouTube.

208

:

It's going to go for my podcast.

209

:

It's going to go on a

blog that'll live forever.

210

:

That'll attract me clients.

211

:

What happens when they come?

212

:

They're going to go into this funnel.

213

:

They'll come into like, whatever.

214

:

Right.

215

:

And how do I, how do I

plug all the holes in that?

216

:

Right?

217

:

How do I be more intentional

about the leads that I capture and

218

:

where I'm leading them and really

focusing on that and really having

219

:

some sustainable systems in place.

220

:

Where then, okay, if I want

to play, then I can play.

221

:

So like, if next month I just want

to create a, uh, I don't know,

222

:

like, hey, grow your podcast,

30 day challenge, then I can be

223

:

creative and do that if I want to.

224

:

If I can do one off things like that,

then cool, because I always have this,

225

:

like, really sustainable, stable.

226

:

Business model in the background that

can slowly be growing and growing the

227

:

more monthly recurring revenue, right?

228

:

So that's kind of my thinking behind it

all and the other day I had a call and

229

:

I announced this on the call that I'm

quitting production and someone it was

230

:

on the call they were like wait, like I

was supposed to get production with you

231

:

and She was a message to me privately

that she had messaged me back because

232

:

I had I had made an offer to her I was

like Hey, come do this production package

233

:

with me and I thought she goes to me and

then she answered me twice even followed

234

:

up I never saw the email and so she

thought I goes to her But anyway, so I

235

:

we decided like she was like, oh my god

I just please let me get in before you

236

:

cut this off and I was like, you know

I should probably give other people the

237

:

opportunity to do the same if they want

to work with me and be like Like literally

238

:

last call for alcohol like last call.

239

:

This is it.

240

:

There's no more after this.

241

:

So last call, like, I ain't even

dropping links or anything like that.

242

:

Like, if you want to, like, come get

at me if you want to work with me,

243

:

because I'm not like, this is literally

like, come on, come work with me.

244

:

So, if you are a current client,

and you're hearing this and like,

245

:

freaking out, like, don't freak out.

246

:

I'm not dropping any

of my current clients.

247

:

I'm not changing anything.

248

:

I'm not going to kick you out.

249

:

I'm not like, going to send

you over to anybody else.

250

:

Um, I'm just not taking any more clients.

251

:

And so eventually.

252

:

Eventually, it'll die off, but some people

will probably stay with me for years

253

:

and that's totally fine, um, as of now.

254

:

So there's no problem with that, but

yeah, get at me, come find me if you

255

:

really want to do production and want

me to launch your podcast with you.

256

:

And um, Yeah.

257

:

So moral of the story here is do

what makes you freaking happy.

258

:

I can't tell you how freeing

I have felt since I've just

259

:

made the decision in my head.

260

:

So things haven't even happened yet.

261

:

I'm still producing a lot of shows.

262

:

I just feel It just feels such

so much confirmation for me that

263

:

this is the right thing for me

because of how good I am free.

264

:

I feel.

265

:

So I just wanted to share that with you.

266

:

Um, just from a perspective of, you

know, what's going on personally,

267

:

what's going on in my business.

268

:

Um, my thought process behind it.

269

:

I don't know if this is really

interesting content or not.

270

:

This doesn't really have to do with,

like, helping you grow your podcast.

271

:

Um.

272

:

But yeah, so if you, I just encourage you,

if you're feeling like that, to really

273

:

evaluate what's working in your business,

what's not working in your business, and

274

:

just do the thing that makes you happy.

275

:

Like you created this business to be

happy, to have a means of something

276

:

that can support you, and and probably

because it was An option like, I don't

277

:

want to say your only option, but the

best option for you, because there

278

:

was not a good job option for you.

279

:

So anyway, um, do the

things that make you happy.

280

:

If you need my help with launching

production and you want to, you

281

:

know, work with me, whatever.

282

:

Um, hit me up on Instagram, uh, at

Angie M Jordan, or if you just want

283

:

to chat about this conversation,

hit me up on Instagram at Angie M

284

:

285

:

Um, I'll tell you more about what I'm

doing or what I'm thinking, whatever.

286

:

I'm an open book.

287

:

Um, and I will talk to you next time.
